Yummy Breakfast

This morning I started things off right!
Actually I have been drinking green smoothies every day for the past two weeks. I have noticed increased energy and better elimination. I don't think I have lost any weight - weigh in will be monthly.

Recipe: Base greens of spinach and kale. Banana, pineapple, orange, dates. Chia seeds and flax meal.

First Smoothie & Weigh-In

I started out this am with a 35 minute walk, and then back to the house for a smoothie. I had initially intended to use kale as my greens, but I saw a bag of salad mix in the fridge that needs to be used up within the next couple of days, so I used that instead. I also added one banana, an apple, 2 tbsp currants (for sweetener), and some vanilla protein powder. The color of your smoothie will take on the color of the greens you use, so expect a variation of colors when you make your smoothies. And some fruits will enhance the colors too. Don't worry if the color isn't a rich green. As long as you know you have your greens in there, it's all good!

I do not have my 'real' blender yet. I used a household blender this am, so the results ARE different. I did not acquire the real smooth texture that I know I will get from the Blend-Tec. The currants did not break down completely, so I felt tiny specks on my tongue. Not too big of a deal. At the end of the day, as long as you get the fruits and veggies in, you're good.

What exactly is a green smoothie?

A green smoothie is your own personal blend of fruits and vegetables, in a liquid form.
This may not sound tasty, but believe me, it is! Green smoothies contain your favorite fruit and your choice of leafy greens, like spinach, lettuce, or kale. What you will actually taste is the sweetness of the fruit; therefore you are able to enjoy a salad’s worth of greens in a deliciously sweet smoothie.
The only piece of equipment you will need is a blender.

Getting Started!

Wow. I've been doing some thinking lately about being as healthy as possible as I grow older. I guess the older I get, I realize that God gave me only one body, and I better take care of it. Getting up in the morning feeling little twinges here and there- of stiffness. The first few steps, hmmm..., a little 'different', to say the least.
So yes, it's time to be a little more mindful of what I am doing when it comes to my health.
In the past, I have drank green smoothies to get more fruits and veggies in my diet. I love the green smoothies, so my current plan is to incorporate more of them in my diet. Over the past two years, I have burned up 3 or4 blenders making smoothies, off and on.
My plan this time is to take my smoothie drinking to another level. Making smoothies most of my dietary nutrition.
Several of my friends have expressed interest in this so I am going to blog my experience. Not only will this allow my friends (& whoever else might be interested) in keeping up with how this is working for me, it will also help to keep me accountable to my goals, lol.

I ordered a 'real blender' a few days ago, called the Blend-Tec blender. I am hoping to have better luck with it...longevity as well as smoother smoothies. I can't wait to get it in the mail!
Hugz!
